Dance Tahiti! is recruiting dancers for its professional troupe. Dance Tahiti enjoys performing at many venues. Recent venues include ExPo New Mexico (State Fairgrounds), 'Outchonda, and Balloon Fiesta Park. Dance Tahiti performs at private parties and luaus, birthday parties, fundraising events, cultural presentations, and public and private functions.
Qualifications: Tahitian or Hula background preferred, but dancers with a background in Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Samba, Flamenco, Salsa, and other fast moving ethnic dance forms will adapt to Tahitian with ease. Other qualifications are ability to learn choreographies as well as possess a positive attitude and body image, grace, stage presence, and eclectic energy ! Above all, you must have a desire to perform and exchange your energy with the audience. Performers must be committed and able to dedicate at least two hours a week to rehearsals.
Compensation: So far, no monetary compensation. Compensation is obtained through the joy of performing, the opportunity to perform, and having performances for your resume. Troupe tips and other forms of venue payment go toward troupe expenses such as travel and costumes.
Dancer costs: Dancers pay $40/month troupe membership fee that is due at the beginning of the month which includes all lessons, training, and rehearsals. Also required is a one time $40 costume fee that is non-refundable and that allows you use of current costumes. Costumes are to be returned once dancers quit the troupe.
